Charvarius Ward names positive 49ers can take from Super Bowl loss

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward knows plenty about experiencing the highest of highs and lowest of lows on the NFL's biggest stages.

During an appearance on the FanDuel TV "Up & Adams" program, Ward named one positive the 49ers can take from this past February's Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

"It [will] make you a little hungrier," Ward explained, according to Jordan Elliott of NBC Sports Bay Area. "Obviously [you've] got to change something because you didn't win the Super Bowl. You can't go in there and be the exact same team and do the exact same stuff and expect to win the Super Bowl the next year."

Ward was with the Chiefs when they defeated the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV and when Kansas City lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. The 28-year-old joined San Francisco in March 2022 and has played in a conference championship defeat and a Super Bowl loss with his current employer.

"So I think the losses, they make you stronger, they make you go harder, they challenge you to be better at something," Ward told show host Kay Adams. "Maybe we don't know what we got to be better at yet, but obviously got to go in there and work, and figure it out to dethrone the champions."

Some have openly wondered how 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will get his players to refocus on reaching the figurative mountaintop considering the franchise has lost two Super Bowl games and a pair of conference title contests since February 2020. With that said, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Niners as the betting favorites at +250 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIX as of early Tuesday afternoon.

"I think we're the best team in the NFL outside of the Super Bowl champions," a confident Ward declared, per David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. "I don't think nobody really messing with us right now. I feel like we clearly got the most talented team in the league."

Ward and the 49ers host the Chiefs in Week 7 of the upcoming season on Oct. 20. Time will tell if that Super Bowl rematch proves to be a preview of the campaign's final game.
